The History

The Cabin was built during the early 90’s as a personal meditation retreat space for Quaker and local Hermit, Lucinda Selchie.

Lucinda was interested in the power of hermitage and silent mediative retreats. The cabin was her personal retreat space. Friends supported her extended retreats by dropping food without seeing her. One fall, she spent 40 days in silent retreat.

This history and spirit are embedded in what we do on the land in our own mission to provide time and space for you.

Land Acknowledgement

The Cabin sits on unceded Penobscot land (in Swanville, Maine). The Wabanaki, People of the Dawnland, were the first and rightful tenders of this and surroundings lands. We don’t see ourselves as owners of this land, but as stewards. We engage in continued efforts to understand the history of this place and to honor indigenous knowledge and leadership. The back 10 acres of the land is in forever conservancy with Coastal Mountain Land Trust.

The Space

The cabin is small and cozy space with one queen sized bed, enough room for a bag or two and is outfitted with all necessary glamping provisions. It is off-grid in the truest sense (no electricity, no central heat/air, no flush toilet) and is nestled on the edge of a private preserve a short distance from our home on our personal homestead.
